Robbing Liberty is an episodic GTA IV machinima. It is highly character-driven with four lead roles. We currently have a team of four members who work on principal body acting, and myself who works on recording and editing.

The story chronicles the unlikely union of four men as they plot a bank heist, each with their own motives for doing so. As events unfold, it transpires that each of the characters have a dark secret, and unbeknownst to them they should really be enemies, not allies.

We're looking for people to play the voices of the four main characters: James Biggs, Robert Cassidy, Marcus Sutton and Jake Dillinger. There will be a lot of voice work required for each role. Each episode will typically last around 15 mins, with each character being prominently featured.

As is this board seems to be UK-based, I'm not sure if I'll find many American voice actors, but it's worth a shot!

Character Bios

James Biggs

Age: 26

Voice type: A standard American accent for this one, preferably New York-sounding, seeing as the series is set in a rendition of New York City and it's the hometown of the character. Nothing has to be particularly special about this voice, just as long as it's in that style.

A compulsive gambler, Biggs spends most of his free time in casinos and bookmakers. He is known to play high stakes card games in various Triad-controlled establishments in the Chinatown area of Liberty City, particularly those belonging to the Mountain Dragon Triad, yet he does little to address the debt he is embroiling himself in. He is a longtime friend of Robert Cassidy, and the two share a close bond. His wife is Jessica Biggs, whom he has been married to for 3 years. Unlike the other characters, Biggs is the only one not to have spent time in prison.

Robert Cassidy

Age: 28

Voice type: Ideally a thick New York accent for this character, with an air of gruffness. He's a tough guy and also serves as the comic relief in areas, so a sarcastic attitude is essential.

Cassidy is a hard-nosed thrillseeker and the most volatile out of all the characters. A car-lover, he works at his garage in Bohan, repairing vehicles and selling used parts. He has a distinctive tattoo on his left cheek, symbolisng fate or destiny. Prior to his work as a mechanic, Cassidy was associated with a Bohan-based gang, who would steal cars and go on joyrides. However, he was eventually caught and sentenced to a year in prison. Following his release, he left the gang and set up a vehicle servicing business in Bohan.

Marcus Sutton

Age: 41

Voice style: Sutton's voice should have a weathered tone, reflected by his years in the military. An African-American inflection is a must as the character is black. The voice should also sound right for his age. For those who have played it, a good example of the type of voice we have in mind for Sutton is Coach from Left 4 Dead 2. The actor's name is Chad Coleman.

Sutton is a Gulf War veteran and former soldier. After receiving a general military discharge from service, he returned to his hometown of Broker, Liberty City, and opened up his own gun store and surplus business. However, despite its outward legitimacy, Sutton uses his business as a means to supply weapons to unscrupulous clients for extra profit. At an unknown period, Sutton's brother - who was an LCPD officer - was killed during an undercover investigation into fraudulent practices within the Liberty City banking system. Sutton firmly believes that his brother's death was the result of him getting "too close to the truth", and that he was ultimately murdered at the behest of bank officials. He still frequents his brother's grave, promising one day he'll "get justice" and expose those responsible for his death.

Jake Dillinger

Age: 33

Voice style: Dillinger's voice should have a slight Italian-American inflection. He is affiliated with the Mafia, so think of gangster archetypes in line with this organisation to get an idea of the style we're looking for. We welcome many different variations on this style, so be as creative as you can, as long as it fits the character's age.

Dillinger is a ruthless and efficient killer, having carried out over a dozen contracts for the shadowy Syndicate. His backstory is largely unknown, but it is assumed that he has spent many years working as a hitman and has a wide network of Mafia-related contacts. His most recent exploit involved an unsanctioned killing of prominent Mountain Dragon Triad member Wan Kuok-Koi at his family's restaurant in Purgatory, Algonquin. His actions forced him to flee and go into hiding.

Production status

At this stage, we currently have a prologue chapter and episode one completed, neither of which contain voice acting. From episode two onwards we will require voice acting, as the action is rather flat with just subtitles. Also, since the filming of those videos, production has shifted over to the PC version of GTA IV, and we're now working in HD.  The models for the characters have also changed to ones which we think suit better.  A sequence has been filmed that showcases this. Below are links to the videos:

The following are lines of dialogue from the first episode. To get a feel for how you think the voices should sound and to add context to the lines themselves, please watch the part of episode one indicated next to the lines.

Biggs

- (Part 1, 2:41) "Cass, shut up and listen. They took my wife. Those Triad bastards took her!"

- (Part 1, 8:18) "I owe 60 grand to the mob. This morning they sent some assholes over to my apartment and kidnapped my wife. I'm doing this because I want her BACK"

Cassidy

(Part 1, 4:02) "The whole of Liberty is out there for the taking. You've just got to want it bad enough"

(Part 1, 6:07) "Hey, you were in the war, right? Is all this shit, like, surplus or something? Or maybe you just killed the last owner"

- (Part 2, 2:56) "Twitchy, Sutton? No fucking shit!"

Sutton

- (Part 1, 7:41) "You're planning on going in there, waving your shitty little pistols around and hoping they'll hand over the cash?"

- (Part 1, 8:02) "Well, I gotta say, I admire your tenacity, but it's gonna take more than you two hillbillies to rob the Bank of Liberty"

Dillinger

(Part 2, 5:16) "I don't got anything to say to your Syndicate assholes. Just finish the job. I'm right here!"

(The following line is from the yet unfinished second episode. Dillinger, reluctant to join Biggs and Cassidy in the robbery, questions their motives) "Why should I trust two pricks who back me into a corner and almost get my fucking head blown off!?"

(This line is also from the second episode. After hearing out Biggs and Cassidy, Dillinger agrees to take part in the robbery) "I think you two have lost your minds. But Syndicate money? Well... that's good enough for me. Let's see what you got"

If you're interested in auditioning for a part, I can be contacted at subsonicdust@hotmail.co.uk. Furthermore, if you have an extensive vocal range and think you're able to voice more than one character in this series (including any supporting or minor characters), or if you just want to improvise a character's lines based on what you've seen, then by all means let me know. The same goes for voicing other nationalities and ethnicities - show us what you've got. We want this process to be as flexible as possible.

Thanks!
